What is the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework?

The NIST Cybersecurity Framework is a guidance for internal and external stakeholders of organizations to help them manage and reduce cybersecurity risk. It lists specific and customizable cybersecurity risk management activities based on existing standards, guidelines, and practices. The Framework includes five functions: identify, protect, detect, respond, and recover.
